Hearing Aids

Just got back from a trip to the audiologist. Nothing new:

1. Joey still has a hearing loss.
2. Joey still needs to wear his hearing aids.
3. Joey still won't wear his hearing aids.

STORMS

Wow - I was so glad that Gustav caused no damage to our house - Because - this is what happened last May, when a storm blew in! One of the trees in the cul-de-sac fell into our front yard, missing the house by about 4 or 5 feet. A week earlier Sonnie and I had planted a berm with lots and lots or Impatients and Dusty Miller. The tree landed right on top of it. Plants were "squirted" right out of the ground - "roots and all".

A few days later, after Steve returned from a trip to Pennsylvania (he left about 2 hours before the storm hit, and returned home 2 days later - about an hour after the power came back on) a friend came over and helped cut the tree up. We didn't get mail delivered until it had all been hauled away because a "big chunk" was in front on the mailbox. What ever happened to "neither rain, nor sleet, nor dark of night..."?

I Was Born at the Right Time

Suzanne asked for a new post, so here it is.

I Was born at the right time. After a visit from GUSTAV I have come to the conclusion that:

1. I could live without cooking shows and HGTV.
2. I could live without microwave ovens.
3. I could live without cell phones - never mind I need my cell phone.
4. I could live without computeres.

BUT.........................

........I COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING AND LIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was so sticky - the heat is enough, but to add the humidity is awful. I know that I don't want to listen to the roar of a generator 24 hours a day, anytime soon. Yes, I was grateful that we had the thing so that we could run a few fans, and a lamp here and there, but they are so loud and the fumes stink.

This is so weird - you know that the power is out, but when you go into another room, you flip the light switch.

I will say that I feel so blessed that we had no damage to our house, and that we are all "safe and sound"! Please pray for those who were not as fortunate as we, and lost homes and or family members, due to Gustav and Ike. May the hurricane season be over!

Ten years ago:


1. I was 44 years young.

2. I had children in elementary school, middle school, and high School.

3. I had 3 grandchildren.

4. I cooked for a lot more people that I do now!

5. I was a lot thinner.


Five things on today's "to do" list:


1. Get my hair done at 10:30

2. Work on albums for Corey, Caleb, Hunter and Bryson (pictures from the ZOO)

3. Sweep and Mop my house.

4. Try to come up with something for dinner that everyone likes...yes after ALL these years, this is still a struggle for me!!!

5. Go to TCBY this evening with my Visiting Teachers.


Five snacks I enjoy:


1. Hot artichoke dip with "bagle chips" and a REAL COKE. (Sometimes I just like to throw caution to the wind and live wild! - Did I mention that I was A LOT thinner 10 years ago?)

2. Soft serve ice vanilla ice cream from Linda's Chicken and Fish. (Yes, I was a LOT LOT THINNER!)

3. Frozen Bluberries - I try to eat some everyday! These are great with a little Splenda and some Fat Free Ready Whip.

4. John WM Macy's Cheese Sticks - Melting Parmesan is one of my favorite flavors. I get them at World Market.

5. Cheese and crackers.


Five things that I would do if I were a millionaire:


1. Pay off ALL of our debts.

2. Pay off ALL of our children's debts.

3. Set up trust funds for all our grandchildren.

4. Move to Utah (Angel Canyon) and work everyday at the largest no-kill animal shelter in the world. And I would also adopt lots of Rescue Pugs, Rescue Greyhounds, and Rescue Carolina Dogs

5. Fly at the drop of a hat to anywhere that my children are. Also (I'm old, I deserve to have more that 5 things on my list.) I would have a seperate "residence" so that any of my children / grandchildren could come and visit me, and stay in a place without dog hair!

Greyhounds

Aren't these dogs beautiful? While we were in Florida last month, we were priviledge to house/dog sit for the Nobos. They are fostering rescued greyhounds. Lucy is on the left - doesn't she look regal? Ace is on the right. He is a shy guy. In the middle, is Mickey. He is a really big boy, and I feel in love with him right away.

These are such sweet loving dogs, and their "breed" are killed at an alarming rate. Please, Please, Please...if anyone out there in cyber world who might be reading this, has room in their heart for a wonderful dog CONSIDER GREYHOUND RESCUES!!! These fabulous dogs are just big 'ole couch potatoes. They are gentle and loving creatures and make GREAT housepets, even in small spaces. They don't bark much, and when relaxed, they will curl up into a ball, like a cat.

Spend a few minutes on line learning about these sweet dogs. Google "Greyhound Rescue" and then read all about them. Since there is dog racing in Tampa, there are a lot of wonderful dogs in Florida who are just waiting for a Forever Home!!!

Who is your best friend? I have several - Anne, Becky, Monna, Stephanie, Susan ... I've only listed a few, and I've put them in alphabetical order. I have some very wonderful friends, and I love them all!

What's your favorite candy? I have serveral, but right now I could go for a Baby Ruth.

Who's your crush? STEVE!

When was the last time you cried? Last weekend when I had to leave my kids, grandkids and friends in Florida.

Do you daydream? Yes.

What's your favorite kind of dog? Pugs, Carolina Dogs, Greyhounds, French Bull Dogs, Boston Terriers, English Bull Dogs, Black Labs .... Shall I go on? I would love to adopt some Greyhounds, but Steve would drop dead if I did. If any one reading this is thinking about getting a dog, PLEASE think about rescuing a Greyhound. Hundreds are killed everyday. They are so very sweet - just big ole couch potatoes!

How do you like your eggs? Scrambled, fried, hard-boiled (by themselves, in a salad, or on a sandwich--egg salad), I love eggs! Thank you Suzanne, for this answer.

Have you ever been in the emergency room? Yes, and it was bad (although it was worse for Steve, as he had to wait in the halls,to find out if I was still alive).

What's the easiest thing ever to do? Eat, Sleep, Read.

Do you prefer sun or rain? I love rain. A perfect day would be a steady rain outside, with bread baking in the oven, and soup on the stove. I would be reading a really good book with my dogs curled up on one side of me, and my husband on the other!

What's your favorite season? Fall - it's not too hot, not too cold, Christmas is coming. I love fall!!!
