Just a Thought on the 28th Congressional Amendment

For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress.  Most citizens have no idea that members of Congress can retire with the same pay after only one term, that they donn't pay into Social Security, that they have specifically exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live under those laws.  The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform that is being considered...in all of its forms.  Somehow, that doesn't seem logical.  I truly don't care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever.
The self-serving must stop.
This is a good way to do that..
It is an idea whose time has come.

         Proposed 28th Amendment
to the United States Constitution:

"Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens
of the United States that does not apply equally
to the Senators and/or Representatives;
and, Congress shall make no law that applies
to the Senators and/or Representatives
that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States".

*SIGH*
Article 5 of the US Constitution specifies two procedures
for amendments...

1.  2/3rds of the the states legislatures call for a
constitutional convention, at which new
amendments may be proposed,
subject to ratification by 3/4ths of
the states.  The constitutional convention method
allows for the Constitution to be amended
by the action of states alone and cuts
Congress out of the equation - no
Congressional vote or approval is required.
However, not once in the history of
the United States have the states ever
called a convention for the purpose
of proposing new constitutional amendments.

2.  The proposed amendment be approved by
both houses of congress by a 2/3rds majority
in each, and then ratified by 3/4ths
of the states.
(So what is the real likelihood of a supermajority of
Congress in both houses, EVER voting for an
amendment that would place ANY type of
restrictions upon themselves?)

This is truly scary when you really think about it!

The Darwin Awards

I just got this in an email, and it was just too good to pass up!
You could wade across these fools gene pool....

The last statement is really scary!!!

The Darwins are out!!!!

Yes, it's that magical time of year again when the Darwin Awards are
bestowed, honoring the least evolved among us.
Here is the glorious winner:

1. When his 38 caliber revolver failed to fire at his intended victim
during a hold-up in Long Beach, California would-be robber James
Elliot did something that can only inspire wonder. He peered down the
barrel and tried the trigger again. This time it worked.

And now, the honorable mentions:

2. The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat cutting
machine and after a little shopping around, submitted a claim to his
insurance company. The company expecting negligence sent out one of
its men to have a look for himself. He tried the machine and he also
lost a finger.. The chef's claim was approved.

3. A man who shoveled snow for an hour to clear a space for his car
during a blizzard in Chicago returned with his vehicle to find a woman
had taken the space. Understandably, he shot her.

4. After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus
driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be
transporting from Harare to Bulawayo had escaped. Not wanting to admit
his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered
everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers
to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very
excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies.. The deception wasn't
discovered for 3 days.

5. An American teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious
head wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he
received the injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying
to see how close he could get his head to a
moving train before he was hit.

6. A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the
counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer,
the man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which
the clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and
fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he
got from the drawer... $15.
[If someone points a gun at you and gives
you money, is a crime committed?]

7. Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly.. He decided
that he'd just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window,
grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it
over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back and hit the
would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor store
window was made of Plexiglas. The whole event
was caught on videotape..

8. As a female shopper exited a New York convenience store, a man
grabbed her purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately, and the
woman was able to give them a detailed description of the snatcher.
Within minutes, the police apprehended the snatcher. They put him in
the car and drove back to the store. The thief was then taken out of
the car and told to stand there for a positive ID. To which he
replied, "Yes, officer, that's her.
That's the lady I stole the purse from."

9. The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a
Burger King in Ypsilanti , Michigan at 5 A.M., flashed a gun, and
demanded cash. The clerk turned him down because he said he couldn't
open the cash register without a food order. When the man ordered
onion rings, the clerk said they weren't available for breakfast...
The man, frustrated, walked away.
[*A 5-STAR STUPIDITY AWARD WINNER]

10. When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked
on a Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for.. Police
arrived at the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor
home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man
admitted to trying to steal gasoline, but he plugged his siphon hose
into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle
declined to press charges saying that it was the best laugh
he'd ever had.

In the interest of bettering mankind, please share these with friends
and family....unless of course one of these individuals by chance is a
distant relative or long lost friend. In that case, be glad they are
distant and hope they remain lost.

Pay It Forward - Thank You Heather!

A few days before Christmas, I got a package in the mail.
It was my Pay It Forward box from Heather
I can't tell you how wonderful it was!
There were so many fantastic goodies.
Candy, a cookie, a book, a book on CD, a snowman ornament.
The cutest little sock change purse containing very lovely surprise.
AND a calendar...just to name a few.
But the bestest ever gifts were a 2009 ornament and a bookmark.
What made them so very very special, was the photo's that were inside.
Do you all remember when my Percy was kidnapped?
Go HERE if you want to know all about it.

I opened it up...and what a surpirse!
It was my Pay It Forward gift
from Heather at Cerebral Girl In A Redneck World!
It was chock full of the nicest things.

I was too excited to go and grab the camera.  In hind sight, I wish
that I had - because my boys grabbed everything edible.
Oh what treasures I found.  Some of the items where wrapped
and some weren't.

I got out my camera last night, and loaded my
loot back into the box, so that
I could show you just how wonderful
all my things are.

A book.  A book on CD's.  A calendar.  A cute little sock change purse with a lovely surprise inside.
A cute little snowman ornament...but this is the BEST

Remember when poor Percy got dognapped?
Heather and Snoop Dog
pleaded with his captors to set him free.
LOL
She put the photo of my blindfolded boy inside
of a 2009 ornament
and
into the tiny frame on a leather bookmark.
TOO CUTE
and oh so special to me.
Want to know just how tiny the photo in the book mark is?

Hello from the Mile High City

I started the New Year, by heading west to visit
with daughters and grandchildren.
It's a chilly 3 degrees outside,
but it's nice and warm inside.
Lovely fire (sorry guys - your gas bill is gonna
be a whopper next month:-(
 warm cup of cocoa,
grandkids bathed and tucked into bed,
and youngest daughter here with me.
We are getting ready to watch
Four Christmases.
The only thing that would make it better,
would be to have my husband by my side...
but somebody's got to bring home the bacon!

last Saturday
with the girls, Dave, Steve and the grand children.
Sariah-Lynn and Dave were so sweet. They watched the
kids, so that Sonnie, Steve, Sarah,
and I could go on the tour.  We all
got to taste lots of the herb teas
(had some biscotti too),
and then went shopping at the

I just love this place.
I've been several times, and plan to go again this weekend.
I have some more goodies that I want to buy!
I haven't yet been able to eat at the Celestial Cafe,

because we've always gone on a Saturday.
Maybe we can go again next week.

I really need to figure out how to upload and then find my photo's
on the laptop. There are so many that I want to post.
Like Sonnie in her zebra print Snuggie:-)
BTW - I've wanted to get these

for George and Gracie, but Oscar Jr.

put the cabosh on that.
Got the most adorable pic of Avery earlier this evening.
I snuggled with her while we watched a
She zonked out almost
immediately, and she looked so peaceful.
Peyton is a snuggle bunny, but Miss Avery is always on the move.
Katelyn only wanted mommy last weekend, so I didn't get
any cuddle time with her, but maybe she will be a little
more willing this weekend.

I have cooking on the calendar for tomorrow.
Going to bake a bunch of chicken.  I'll debone it
and then bag it up for the freezer.
Sonnie wants Chocolate Crackle Cookies,
so we will pop some of those in the oven.
Meatloaf is on the menu for Friday night.
Thinking that we might make some Cake Pops
(Thank you Bakerella!)

Oops - I forgot that Sarah wants a White Chocolate Cheescake.
I'll have to send Sonnie back to WalMart in the morning.

Best be going now.

PS - my goal was to maintain my weight loss over the holidays...
kissed that one goodbye a few weeks back,
BUT
spending a lot of time in a 3 story townhouse,
so maybe I'll work off a few pounds while I'm here!
