Happy Anniversary Mimi and Papa

Several posts back, I menitoned that my husbands mother was married to my father. I had a number of comments telling me that I had a lot of "esplain'n to do", so what better time than today, as it is Mimi and Papa's 36th wedding anniversary!

Here is my "Readers Digest" condensed version of the story.

My parents were divorced when I was in the 4th or 5th grade. My father, being a very "family kind of guy" joined the Parents Without Partners Organization. He had two girls and he met a lovely lady with two kids of her own (okay - admit it...you're singing the Brady Bunch song), who he was quite attracted to. They began dating. They introduced us all (me and my sister and my husband and his brother), and soon thereafter, Steve and I started dating. To make a long story short...They were married on January 5th 1973 and we were married the following September.

It has been a great ride for all of us. For me, having a Mother-in-Law who, I guess, could also be considered my step-mom, has been a true blessing. She has been a wonderful mother to me and grandmother to my children and their children.

It's wonderful to see Mimi (Jan) and Papa (Ray) together. They are quite opposite in nature, and it must be true what they say about opposites being attracted to one another. These two are still madly in love with one another, and enjoy life to the fullest.

Steve's mom is a neat-nick. She is sophisticated and elegant. She would never call attention to herself unless it was absolutely necessary. My dad - he couldn't care less about what he's wearing, or who is paying attention to him. He is who he is!

SIDEBAR - More about my dad on January 20th!

My father thinks nothing of grabbing his woman, in the aisles of the grocery store, and dancing with her to the "musac music". I think its romantic, but I'm not the one being flung around in the aisles in WinnDixie!

Our parents are honest, hardworking, trustworthy people. They are intelligent, interesting, and an asset to their community. They are active, energetic, and fun to be with. They are our beginnings, and without them we would not be who we are!

Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad. May you have many many more.
We Love You!!!

Writers Block

This is how I'm feel'n right about now.

I've got NOTHING!

I mean absolutely positively...

N*O*T*H*I*N*G

Now mind you - I don't have dark hair, and I'm not thin, and I don't have lovely hands like this lady... but you get the idea, Right?

Sometimes, after I've crawled into bed at night, and I'm trying to go to sleep, I can't turn my brain off. I've got ideas running around, like a hamster on a wheel.

Sidebar...Why do those things always squeak? The wheels, not the hamsters.

Once in a while I'll actually grab a flashlight out of the steps next to my bed (yeah, I'm so short and fat, I've gotta have steps to get into bed - ain't that a pretty picture), and grab a pen and a pad of paper out of my bedside table, and write my ideas down. Now mind you...most of those ideas wind up in the wastebasket, because in the light of day they aren't ever as cleaver as they seemed in the dark of night.

Often, when reading the paper, I'll see something interesting...so I'll dutifully cut out the article, thinking that I'll post on in, but I usually end up loosing it. If I can manage to hang on to it, I'll second guess myself on my ability to say anything witty or worthwhile about it, so into the trash can( with my middle of the night notes) it goes.

I'm dry. Like old toast dry. Like middle of the desert, at high noon, dry.

Maybe the night muses will come to me this evening. I need something folks...maybe I'll try some egg nog Or chocolate. Egg nog and chocolate. Yeah - it's worth a try!

A New Year

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

From The Holy Bible (King James Version)Attributed to King Solomon

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

A time to rend, and a time to sow; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war; and a time of peace.

My dear friends and loved ones, may the Lord bless us this year, if it be His will, with:

Time for reaping.
Time for new birth.
Time for Healing.
Time for building up.

Time for laughing.
Time for dancing.

Time for embracing.

Time for speaking good words.

Time for loving.

Time for peace in our hearts and for peace throughout the world.
